It is not really me it is a culture I was raised in. When I was in High School in Maine in the 70's my parents bought the first Foxfire book. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxfire_(magazine)

My parents added a wood stove to the house I was raised in. They had a sizable vegetable garden and canned the excess produce. My Dad taught me to make wine. Appalachian culture is not that different north or south. My surname means from the hills (knolls) Middle English but seems appropriate as I was raise in the foot hills of the Appalachian mountains in Maine. The Appalachian Trail runs thru my Paternal Family's domain. I see you have taken long hikes. The Appalachian Trail is that kind of thing.
