It’s no surprise that most Americans have a dim view of debt.

That is right because most Americans have debt that was created spending on assets that have depreciated to almost nothing while they still have most of the debt. Having debt with nothing to show for it will give you a dim view of debt.

Maybe you should more spend more time writing about what the government should spend money on an less about how it is financed.

Can you admit that not all deficit spending is good?

Wasteful spending causes harm and virtuous spending causes good. Borrowing to buy a house might be virtuous but borrowing to buy a wedding dress can be harmful. There are certainly exceptions but I think you can understand the point.

Consider the costs of our wars in the Middle East money well spent? Pell Grants, money well spent?

To my mind, one was money well spent that created more wealth and goodness and the other caused great harm and was pissed away.

We should not have to worry about how to fund good spending and we should never piss money away causing harm. I don't care how you raise the funding for good spending, taxes, deficit or just print the money. Bad spending just should not happen and does not need to be funded.

I don't know if in the story you touch on this but Taxes are not to fund the government. Taxes are a political and economic tool to manipulate the economy and the people. They are a disincentive to certain activities. The idea that taxes fund anything is just a justification for political manipulations. If we need road improvements we should fund them and it should not matter how much gas tax money has been raised. Fixing a road that needs repair is a common good and should be done regardless the funding. Building a road to nowhere because the road fund is flush and it will help raise campaign funds is evil.
