After all, my family needs health insurance.
Let me say, I am not being critical. It is a good story. Thanks for sharing.
But…
Anyone can buy health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. It can be a better value than your employer provides. You can freelance and still have health insurance. When I went from contract labor to direct employee they cut my pay by the amount they were going to have to pay for my health insurance among other things. I took a forty thousand dollar a year pay cut to stay with the job..
When I was retired I was thankful for the ACA. When the ACA was about to be enacted I was a strong supporter of the ACA and was criticized by my conservative friends. I had a wife with an expensive chronic medical condition (type 1 diabetes with complications). Before the ACA I need a job that covered pre-existing conditions even if I did not need a pay check. Now that is not the case. I don’t have to work just to have medical insurance. Before she passed away her life time medical expenses were more than a million dollars. There was a time when I was worried I would have to change jobs so that we would avoid the million dollar coverage limit of my company’s policy. Thankfully they change insurance providers and it reset the counter to zero.
