Modern hunting is designed to be sustainable. Taking mothers with infants is often illegal and if not is discouraged except in the case of invasive species like wild hogs or nutria where to protect the environment anything that reduces the population is encouraged. Hunting seasons are scheduled such that infants are almost a year old so they can survive on their own.
