Please use "we" and "us" less and use more definitive nouns. Some examples from your story.

"We allowed this to happen?"

"disasters that we have caused"

"We cannot go on like this,"

"require us to learn very complex science"

"for our continued survival"

I feel no affinity for those "we" or "us."

About whom are you really talking?
