Problems the Politicians don’t want solved.
Politicians need hot button issues to capture their base. If those issues were fixed the politicians would no longer have them as a way to divide the electorate.
Two examples one from the left and one from the right. Or maybe I should say two examples of issues the left and right use to divide us.
The Gun Control issue. The left wants more and stronger Federal Restrictions on Firearm ownership. This is a wonderful tool for the Democrat party as even when they have victories they have the issue because they will never get a total ban in the U.S. so they will always have that next challenge to rally the base. It is also a wonderful issue for the right because it speaks to freedom and personal liberty. The issue is for many a litmus test and can often be the sole factor in the voting booth both on the left and the right.
Both sides agree that gun violence is a problem but do very little to curb gun violence and are glad to just fight about federal law and not address the core issues that lead to gun violence.
The Abortion issue. The Right wants more and stronger Federal Restrictions on abortion. This is a wonderful tool for the Republican party as even when they have victories they have the issue because they will never get a total ban in the U.S. so they will always have that next challenge to rally the base. It is also a wonderful issue for the left because it speaks to personal liberty and can be linked to patriarchy and feminism. The issue is for many a litmus test and can often be the sole factor in the voting booth both on the left and the right.
Both sides agree that we have too many abortions but do very little to curb the underlying causes of abortions and are glad to just fight about federal law and not address the core issues that lead to abortions.
There is a lot we can do to reduce Gun Violence and Abortions that don’t need any changes to federal law. The good people are working doing the good work to make things better while politicians use wedge issues to divide us. Stop being a tool of the broken political system and don’t support candidates the use wedge issues to divide us and support politicians who understand that we can make a difference by working on the core issues and not just making political points by championing new federal law.
