Really? Rich bosses only care about prestige and power. Profit does enhance prestige in the board room so profit does matter but power, that is the rich boss drug of choice. Power manifests as control. The plebes can't be let to have their way, they must suffer for their rewards and the bosses must be in control of rewards.
That is part A
Part B is:
The production line must never be given hard evidence that the office only works 3 hours for 8 hours pay. Not that they don't suspect but at least the office must be present for 8 hours so the fig leaf is preserved. Those that must be on-site because they must use the on-site equipment to do their work and who's time is often tracked by the minute and second not by the hour already envy the privilege of the office. Imagine their envy of those who are so privileged as to be able to work from home for however many hours they choose and at whatever hours of the day they wish.
I am glad we rarely use cameras during our remote meetings that way I can tie fishing flies during meetings so they are not a total waste. (that is a fictional joke)
I once worked for a V.P. who had a 7:30 am staff meeting every morning. We would all gather in his conference room. Often his deputy would tie him in on his cell phone on the conference room phone while he drove to work. Usually he made it to the conference room before the meeting ended.
Way back then only he and his deputy had company cell phones. None of us had blackberries like theirs. My household had a single Traxphone for emergencies. My wife usually carried it and it was only on when needed. When I was on business travel the company issued me a beeper (pager). The consequences of not responding to the pager were dire. You had better have been able to prove you were on an airline flight or in a coma in a hospital.
