Sakshi, I hope you don't mind continuing this exchange.
There is a definition of democracy that aligns with what I think you are suggesting.
democracy
[dəˈmäkrəsē]
NOUN
the practice or principles of social equality.
"demands for greater democracy"
I think this is a wonderful idea and goal. Much must change in how we are represented in the government and how we elect our representation to make progress toward that goal. I would almost give up on that at the national level and focus on the state and local governments. It should be more important who is your mayor and governor than who is your president.
While it is undeniable that an intelligent, educated and informed electorate would make achieving that goal easier, we have a long way to go to realize that kind of electorate. Actually we have a sort of catch 22 situation. You will not have an intelligent, educated and informed electorate until you achieve greater social equality but you will not achieve greater social equality via democratic elections with the electorate you have.
To much of the electoral is in a daily struggle to survive to obtain the necessary education and information. Without some form of benevolence they will not be able to break loose from that struggle. The underprivileged will continue to be oppressed and remain at a huge disadvantage.
It bothers me to see you include economic growth and innovation, naked in your list of needs. Both need to be heavily qualified. Growth needs to be sustainable and innovations need to be for the good not just for the rich or the hell of it. I can support innovating for sustainable growth or innovating for more equitable educational opportunities but finding new ways to destroy the planet or distract us from the critical work that needs doing are not things I can support.
Don't kid yourself. Our leadership for the most part is competent they just have different goals than we do and they work against us. Many of them are very very good at what they do. What they do is aggregate power to themselves and the United Neo-Liberal/Conservative Plutocratic Oligarchic Elites. The Status Quo Powers that Be.
If for every election our choices have been selected by the Powers that Be and have been groomed and financed by the Plutocrats and Oligarchs. If Obama could not break the cycle and Bernie could not get the nomination what hope do we really have for AOC. The only way a "Green New Deal" gets passed is if it lines the pockets of billionaires.
The only way to not be disappointed is to keep a realistic set of expectations. Hope is for fools.
I feel a lot better since I gave up hope.
