Scarcity or abundance is not about money. Well, it should not be. Set cost aside and just address ability or availability.

So people need food, shelter, education, transportation, health care and entertainment.

Who thinks that in the U.S. there is not enough of these things available, enough capacity if we want to create it. Everyone could have all those things in abundance and we would still be able to generate a surplus. The problem is not scarcity but distribution. We use the exchange of labor for dollars to control the distribution due to a misperception that the distribution is or should be based on merit. More accurately the distribution is based on circumstances and often the most telling circumstance is the zip code of your birth.

We do need a lot of people to work. Without a lot of workers we could not provide the people with the needed food, shelter, education, transportation, health care and entertainment. We actually don't have enough workers and are dependent on a lot of imports and immigrants.
