Scott said, "needed an accurate weapon that fired multiple rounds at the enemy fast."

Wiki said "The ArmaLite AR-15 was designed to be a lightweight rifle and to fire a new high-velocity, lightweight, small-caliber cartridge to allow infantrymen to carry more ammunition".

We already had many weapons that could fire multiple rounds at the enemy fast. What was desired with a light easy to carry soft recoiling handy weapon that did not demand such a large weight of ammo to be carried.

These attributes are also what leads to the semi-auto versions to be so popular. It is handy, lightweight, fires less massive and expensive ammo and does not punish the shooter with heavy recoil.

This also highlights the misrepresentation "is not a weapon for hunting, target shooting, or self-defense outside of a war zone. (Cue the dull comments from gun violence apologists.)" It seems Scott knew this was incorrect and warned off people from commenting because he has heard it all before but decided to make the inaccurate statement anyway.

My comments maybe dull but I am not a gun violence apologist. Because the gun is so popular quite a few people use it to hunt, target shoot and for self-defense. It is not the best choice for any of those activities, but it is well enough suited that it can fill those rolls for most users with commonly available inexpensive ammo.

Scott seems to have a personal issue with this firearm that obscures his understanding or leads him to write contrary to the facts.

I dislike the "tacticool" crowd that dresses in fatigues and has tricked out AR's, not my thing. I don't oppose restrictions "assault weapons." I don't advocate for those restrictions because they were not demonstrated to reduce violence. Just one more ineffective approach that addresses the symptoms and not the root cause. Kind of like abortion bans, the problem is not abortions the problem is unwanted pregnancies.

You want to stop gun violence, eliminate young men's desire to kill. Scott advocation for this is clear and well stated. I like and follow Scott and am just trying to help him stay on the right side of the facts.
