Small investments I started half a century ago are now a pile of wealth I will never spend. I can live off my pension and social security but I have not started collecting my social security because I have a job that I am not ready to quit. That does not even consider my IRA or my other savings.

It is not like I made a huge amount of money, just a regular professional salary. I just did not spend it all, oh and there were years where the family had maximum out of pocket medical expenses. I don't know maybe the fear of those big medical bills caused us to save more that most. We never had credit card debt. Our good luck was always greater than our bad luck.
