So our quagmire in Afghanistan is the most successful invasion of Afghanistan in a millennium? Or at least the longest.

The idea of keeping the war going in the Middle East as a way to keep jihadis occupied seems not badly founded. Sort of like keeping the fire going but not building it too big. Don’t want to consume too much wood but you still want a fire.

Withdrawing from Iraq would seem to leave a vacuum that will be filled by Shia. I guess we could encourage the Saudi’s to sponsor Sunni jihadis to continue terror in the region but isn’t that what we just declared victory over.

It seems like Iran has considerable influence from Tehran through Bagdad all the way to Beirut, Damascus and Sana’a. While I would like to think that is a Saudi, Israeli and Turkish problem, those people are supposed to be our allies. I don’t really like them but can we really just stand aside and make the take care of that business.

There seem to be Russians behind the other side in this conflict. They back Syria, they trade with Iran, they are flirting with Turkey and Israel.

Trump is no mastermind but I don’t see him as having screwed this up.

Regarding Iran’s nuke program, starving it of funding might be just as effective as engagement but it is sort of inhumane as Iran will stiff its people to fund its nuke ambitions.

I wonder is Putin the richest world leader.

I have been led to believe that the Ayatollah is also quite rich.
