So true. What are we to do about the people who want to use laws and police to implement the social order of their choice. Democratic institutions and civil disobedience seem to be our only recourse.

We somehow have avoided a complete Evangelical Christian Police State but many think that would Make America Great Again

On the flip side I am no Libertarian and do think there is a place for law and order.

To find the right balance we need better democratic institutions (ones that lead to a government that better reflects the will of the people) and more intelligent and better educated electorate. I am not convinced that our electoral is smart enough to elect the right people. The people we have elected in the past have distorted these democratic institutions to improve their chances to retain power against the will of the majority.

"Modifying human behavior" yes, we do it and sometimes it is coercive. We are back to making something illegal does not eliminate the knowledge and ability. Think Conversion Therapy. Think Clockwork Orange think any powerful enforce indoctrination, like children raised in fundamentalist religious communities.

Anyway, thanks for your valueable thoughts.
