That might be one way to deal with Corp. Life. My approach was to find interesting assignments, good work. That kept me motivated and that made me excel. I was not focused on promotions and sometime even avoided promotions as they would have taken me away from fun work and put me doing something I did not like for not enough more money to make it worth my while.
Another thing is. The day you can look at your finances and say, I don't need this paycheck anymore. It could be because of your side gig or your investments or your kids graduated from college. Then you can push back harder against being abused at work.
Then their is the being essential at work. This can keep you from being promoted so you are discouraged from becoming a single point of failure. If you have some irreplaceable skill or contacts or relationship with the customer you can dictate terms to your leadership, within reason. You certainly can refuse to be pushed around.
There are as many ways to succeed in the corporate world as their are different corporations and just as many ways to be miserable.
