The Encyclopedia Britannica has a different definition.

https://www.britannica.com/topic/patriarchy

"Patriarchy, hypothetical social system in which the father or a male elder has absolute authority over the family group; by extension, one or more men (as in a council) exert absolute authority over the community as a whole."

It has been half a century since the US was such that it could be consider a patriarchy by that definition. In the US today even when a man is in charge, they rarely have absolute authority and when there is counsel or board or a governing body rarely are all the members men, except for the churches that I mentioned. If we lived in a Patriarchy, Janet Yellen would never have been on the Fed Board of Governors and certainly would not have been Fed Chairperson.

Do you understand that you and Wikipedia have watered down the meaning of Patriarchy so that you could still have it somewhat apply to the current US social situation.

You changed it from always a man who has absolute authority to most often a man in charge but one who does not have absolute authority.

The next step in this evolution you will claim it is a patriarchy if ever a man is in charge even if women are in charge most of the time.
