The Republicans can't win the presidency with their current policies without resorting to undemocratic tactics (unless the Democrats nominate a very unpopular candidate) so of which are actually codified into our laws like the electoral college.

Demographics and a progressive shift in the electorate will continue to disadvantage the Republicans.

I feel like this past election was the last gasp of the post Nixon (southern strategy) Republicans. If they are going to win in the future they need a new coalition as the big tent they built has collapsed.

They will have to push the racists, xenophobes, and sexists into the background and shift their focus economic issues if they want to build a new majority because their undemocratic practices failed. We have too strong of democratic traditions to let those undemocratic practices succeed. Many Republicans, maybe not a majority but many Republican value democracy more highly than victory.
