The "rich" have a mental problem, they can't imagine someone being happy if they aren't "rich" (have a lot of money and power).
Anyone who needs more is not happy or they would not need more they would be happy with what they got. Averice is a sickness and a sin.
av·a·rice
[ˈavərəs]
noun
extreme greed for wealth or material gain:
Once you have enough to live comfortably and can-do pleasant things, wanting more is a mental defect.
You wrote "material possessions and wealth hold no value to us." I have to disagree, what is a painter without his canvas, brushes and colors. I value my tools and without some wealth, I would struggle. Frivolous material possessions and excess wealth are of no value but tools and enough wealth to practice your art are very valuable.
