The U.S.A. does not define itself as Christian. The U.S.A. is a secular country. The 2/3's majority of the citizens claim to be Chistian, but they don't really act as Jesus would. Of course, everyone is a sinner.

The lack of dental insurance is certainly a problem. Dental is one place where regular checkups and preventive care makes a big difference in outcomes.

The system you describe would seem to work better but, in the end, it is not as different as I expected. The U.S. has government provided coverage for the poor and the children of the poor even get dental coverage. People over 65 get government coverage if they worked enough when they were younger. Everyone else is expected to buy insurance and there is a government insurance market place to make sure everyone can find coverage if you don't get insurance through your employment. The real gap in the U.S. is the working class that doesn't get insurance from their employer. They often do not get insurance because they prioritize other spending even though the government provides incentives (subsidy). Many of them would protest having money taken out of their paycheck to pay for government provided health insurance. Something many people don't understand, nobody is denied lifesaving emergency care and paying as you go for most treatment is cheaper than paying for insurance that has copays and deductibles. Paying for insurance when you are healthy seems like a waste of money to them.
