The way you worded this is deceiving.

"Unfortunately, the evidence shows you’re more likely to hurt yourself than protect your loved ones with a gun."

Most of the harms indicated in the study are suicides. It lumps all gun owners into one category. Does not differentiate between trained stable gun owners and neophytes, fools and the suicidal. If you are an experience gun owner who has proper training and are not prone to suicide you are very unlikely to harm yourself with a gun.

It also disregards the deterrent effects of being a known gun owner with the will and ability to defend himself and others. The presence of a capable armed individual has ended many confrontations without violence.
