There are many on the left that would like to ban private ownership of firearms. They don't often say it out loud but sometimes they slip up. Other times they will say out loud that we should have laws similar to Australia or the UK. Those countries ban many kinds of firearms.

The weapons of war classification is not useful. Swords are weapons of war.

A ban on semi-automatic rifles and detachable high-capacity magazines does not require any additional classification. There are and have been such bans already. Seems they were/are not popular. I support them, the bans and would turn mine in if they were banned.

You might not be familiar with Three Gun completions (a kind of target shooting) and it pretty much requires a high-capacity semi-automatic rifle.

I am guessing you are not well-informed regarding firearms, hunting and target shooting competitions. There are other target competitions that in order to compete at the highest levels you need to shoot something like an AR-15. The competition is intended to be similar to high level military marksmanship qualification. Like can you shoot as well as an Army Ranger or a Navy Seal. A lot of the competitors are active duty or retired military.
