There is pressure to pay as little as possible. Pay is not based on the value of the work. Pay is based on the lowest compensation that will get the position filled.

You will get smoke blown your way to convince you that while the pay might be low the job has other rewards.

Some people work for free. I have even worked for free. Interns, volunteers, caregivers, child care providers. Many do not get paid. They provide value and are sometimes essential but still don't get paid. Why would you pay someone if you can get the value for free?
