This is a meaningless apples to oranges comparison. You are comparing a fuel to generator, how about you compare a diesel generator and its fuel tank and mounting pad or trailer to a bank of solar panels. A 500 kw diesel gen set and its mounting pad and interconnect is 8 tons. A 500 kw solar farm complete with mounting bases and interconnect is 30 tons. The diesel gen set needs fuel, a tanker truck or pipeline and a bunch of expensive maintenance. The solar farm only makes power when the sun shines. The solar looks a not so bad if you compare apples to apples.
