This is not one of your better stories. It misrepresents the situation. We do need a better form of healthcare but anyone can buy insurance. You don't need your employer to provide your health insurance. ObamaCare fixed that.

I was a contract laborer who provided my own health insurance. It cost me $800 a month, $9600 a year. My employer pressured me to come be a direct employee with benefits. They reduced my pay by $55,000 a year to cover their benefits and their half of my social security. Medical, dental, vision, 401K, 4 weeks vacation, unemployment, and who knows what else. Stuff I did not need or want.

If you want to start your own business or freelance just include whatever insurance you want in your budget. Your employer does not pay your homeowners or car insurance. They might not even pay your life insurance, my current employer does not.

It is not really the poor who are caught in a health insurance trap. It is the working class and lower middle class who don't qualify for Medicaid or Medicare who are trapped.

Medical care is expensive anywhere but more so in the USA. Universal Health Care will not be free or reduce the total cost it just changes who pays. I am all for putting more of the burden on the rich. Just giving everyone health insurance does not mean the rich will be the ones paying the bill.
