To my way of thinking this first paragraph is flawed. I trust nothing and no one, in the manner you present trust. What I do trust is the bankers are predictable and with that, the system works for me and benefits me.

Bankers have never violated their agreements with me and have offered me many perks and benefits. I do not believe any alternative solution so far proposed are superior to the current system. The current system is working, it has not collapsed but it certainly needs to be improved and evolved or it will collapse. A wholesale rejection of the current system and an effort to replace it out right would almost certainly lead to a collapse.
