We all don't see our self-interests the same. A Christian might think that suffering for Jesus is in their self-interest as well as giving charity to the poor and the church buying a stairway to heaven as it might be. A rich person might see their self-interest as benefited by great acts of philanthropy so as to salve the conscience or keep a positive public image. One's self-interest is not solely to get more money and power.
