We need improve efficiency in both production and consumption. Consumption needs to stop growing even if production becomes more efficient.

We need to stop the growth in populations. We need to stop the growth in electricity consumption. We need to stop the growth in travel and automobiles even if we make these things more efficient. We need to stop having bigger and bigger houses.

We should continue to advance technology. Nobody is saying return to the past just don't move to a future of more, move to a future of better and even better with less not more.
