We will probably have a second dark age and I hope it will be followed by a second renaissance. This time the timescale might be accelerated and be more a matter of decades and centuries not centuries and a millennium.

We can only hope that some enclaves of enlightened will emerge out the other side of the darkness to lead those who might have survived in the second renaissance. We can hope that most knowledge and genetic material will have been preserved so that the planet can be repopulated with greater genetic diversity and species diversity that even today.

Cycles, how many times does society spiral outward from darkness to light back to darkness only to return to the light. Six extinctions and life continues, maybe life will still have humans. The longer it takes to collapse into a dark age the few species will survive. Hopefully we pass into the dark age without Nuclear Armageddon.
