While nice people will understand and cut you some slack, those who want to continue the oppression will use that chip to bait you into self-destructive action. It is classic bullying technique to get your goat. You ever notice in sports the foul is called against a player who overreacts to a taunt or mild contact, not the player who prompted the reaction. I deliberately bump into you and quietly insult you making it look like just casual contact and you lose you cool and push me and yell. You get ejected from the game.

Same in real life, you are sensitive to microaggressions or such and a person who doesn't like people like you wants to bring you down and knows how to get you steamed. They just make sure their actions can't be documented. They whisper insults too you or just leave anonymous messages or markers or such for you until you lose your cool. On top of that they do all the legit stuff they can to damage your reputation as well. Make sure your every mistake is well known.

I am just saying, I understand why people have a chip on their shoulder and I will cut them a lot of slack, but the chip is a liability, and your enemies will use it against you.
