While that is a good story it misses a very important insight.

The people, the electorate, the citizens have not changed much. A slow demographic shift is occurring but the change will not be fast enough to avoid disaster.

The political class has not changed much more than the electorate. I has become more diverse in race, gender, etc. but they are still mostly of the same ilk as before. Our new president has no modern ideas.

Politically and socially we are pretty much stagnated.
