Why do you think there is more bureaucracy now than in the past? Modern data systems have reduced the effort required to fill out forms and make applications. Long ago the burden of bureaucracy was recognized and efforts to reduce is impact have been implemented.

I guess you believe the pressure to over-commit is greater now for young people than in the past. I think that is very hard to assess.

I see young people getting more support from families now than in the past. My generation was expected to move out of the house and be self-supporting at 18 yrs. old and getting married right away. Now that age target seems to be more like 30 yrs. old.
