if worker-owned, the capitalists could no longer profit.
Wrong, if worker-owned, the workers are the capitalist who profit.
To my mind, this story it too long and should be a series.
I have written about capitalism elsewhere on Medium. I would like to stress:
“Capitalism is not the problem it is Oligarchs, Monopolists, and Plutocrats who are the problem. Private ownership of the means of production and the pooling of capital to create a business is not bad or wrong. Using wealth and power to manipulate the rules, markets and regulations to benefit a few to the disadvantage of the many is what is bad and wrong and that is not capitalism that is more like fascism.”
Consider that it is liberty that permits the abuse of capitalism and facilitates the rise of Oligarchs, Monopolists and Plutocrats. I don’t believe that most capitalists are psychopaths but Oligarchs, Monopolists and Plutocrats might be. Their psychopathology is pursuit of money and power over sweeter virtues.
I believe everyone does pursue what they believe is their self-interest but may find family, community and fraternity more beneficial to their self-interest than excess profits that is clearly driven by greed and not need.
The highest achievement in self-interest is satisfaction. Greed can rarely be satisfied but charity, accomplishment, community can be very satisfying. It is hard to be satisfied without some profit but excess profit can cause dissatisfaction. If you want to be loved and respected by your community they can’t believe that you are taking advantage of them to try and satisfy your greed.
If you were very rich and satisfied then you would not pursue additional wealth and not try to impress other with your wealth.
I am not satisfied, I have been trying to impress others with my modesty but have been failing, too much cultural inertia for someone as modest as myself make much difference. I will continue to model virtues as I see them and try to be satisfied with the results.
I will try to find a way to read the rest of your story. I think it is a good story, just too long for me to read in one go. I will have to find a way to book mark my progress. I am sure I will find other things to comment on, again, I have to keep track of my thoughts as I go. I could print it I guess or copy it to a separate file.
