Yeah, not everyone will be able to have a comfortable retirement. My Mom did alright on my Dad’s meager savings and Social Security but she lived in rural central Maine and lived a very modest lifestyle.

My protégés and I live in the New Orleans area. I expect they will advance to six figure salaries before they retire. They will not be able to support their current lifestyle on a meager savings and Social Security.

Can you explain why in your market “salaries are basically slave labor?” Is it unemployment or some other force that keeps salaries so low? Here medical professionals seem to make fair money, not slave wages.

The idea that “the government should be set up so that people don’t have too” is a different social system than we have now. Maybe in time our democratic system will become more socialist and you will have what you want, free healthcare, free post secondary education, free housing, Universal Basic Income. Maybe we could even get that right. Most likely it would create a more stratified caste system with those living on those benefits and those that choose the products available for purchase. That could be controlled to a degree if you ban private healthcare and private schools but that is not freedom that is tyranny.
