Yes, the environment was an issue in the U.S.A. at the time. The government had recently created the Environmental Protection Agency. We were limiting car exhaust emissions, took the lead out of gasoline, and cleaning up our rivers and streams. We stopped the use of pesticides that were killing our eagles. We started to control the use of ozone depleting chemicals. We stopped killing whales. We stopped the acid rain. In the U.S.A. environmentalists have been fighting to save the planet for more than half a century.
