Yes, the problems is the people who set up these systems. They consider the system’s disfunction a feature not a bug. It is the same way with health insurance claim processing. That the system routinely rejects qualified claims is deliberate. It is not just unemployment insurance and health insurance.

We applied for Social Security Disability for my wife, at 50 years old she had been a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic for over 40 years, she had heart bypass surgery twice, had a pulmonary embolism and many diabetes related health problems and while she had been working since she was in her early 20’s she could not work anymore. She was too broken down to work. SSDI denied our claim. We did some research and it turns out first time claims are almost always denied they don’t even really look at them. The recommendation was to get a lawyer. If you don’t have a lawyer they are not going to take your claim seriously. We passed on the lawyer and did not pursue the claim. She died 5 years later. We did not need the money, we were entitled but we were not going to feed the lawyers and stress over dealing with the lawyers and Social Security Administration. It would only make our life harder and worse. Of course this was all fine with Social Security and I guess it makes some lawyer sad they missed getting a big cut of our benefit.

Car insurance, home owners insurance and just about any warranty or guarantee. Getting what you are entitled too requires great effort and is often not worth that effort. The goal of these systems is to avoid paying it is not provide the deserved compensation.
