Yes, there are short term benefits from allowing monopolies. Letting our Utilities/service providers to promote their brand above the competition can be very convenient but it stifles competition and innovation. This leads to adverse outcomes in the future. A minor inconvenience today could lead to lower prices and better products tomorrow.
