Yes we will.
society will have to deal with the paradox that greater wealth generation through machine work may result in widespread impoverishment.
More like we need to prevent widespread impoverishment even if it means we need to forgo greater wealth generation.
If something makes the rich richer and the poor not richer then it should be rejected. I would prefer society rejects it socially and does not have to resort to regulation. I will boycott Amazon Go Grocery and if necessary Amazon in general. I should have boycotted Walmart while we still had alternatives.
It is not a priority to generate more wealth, the priority is to improve the general welfare. We need to find roles in society for as many people as possible that are consistent with their abilities. If all you have prepared people to do is stock shelves and be cashiers then don’t eliminate those positions.
When, in a few decades, we tell our grandchildren that people used to work as cashiers in supermarkets and describes what they did in their day-to-day life, those youngsters will see that as a kind of slavery.
I truly doubt this and we should endeavor to prevent it from being so. If being a cashier is seen as a kind of slavery what kind of work is not slavery. Is earning a living going to be a thing of the past? Don’t you think people should be obligated to contribute to society? Don’t you think that cashiers make our lives better. Do you treat cashiers like robots or machines? Do you look down on them? Do you treat them badly?
My cashiers are not strangers, they recognize me.
I don’t like the vision of the future you are suggesting.
