we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die. And that is, at its core, our problem.”

You are not left to die if you don’t have a job. You can start you own business or perform services for compensation. Be a musician or cut grass or run errands or whatever. Everyone should be required to give back or provide some service to the community to compensate the commons for the roads and schools and libraries and all the other infrastructure that they use. NO FREE RIDE FOR THE ABLE BODIED. Everyone takes from the commons and so if you can, you must give back. UBI eliminates the requirement to give back and reduces the incentive to give back more. The work you do, whether it is picking up the trash or performing heart surgery is a service to society and if it is not hopefully you at least pay taxes so you are not just a drag on society.

Socialism actually expects you to give to society your best effort to make the society better. Something like “from each according to their ability to each according to their needs.” I am not a socialist because the flaw in socialism is it lacks the proper incentives to make it actually work. It actually is filled with perverse incentives that almost guaranties it will fail.

UBI is not better than a proper social safety net.
