You asked "should people have to work at all?"

Things need to be done that can't be done by machines. I could list them but you could as well, I am sure.

Yes, people have to work or we would all be miserable or dead.

Does everyone have too work, obviously, no. How to decide who has to work and who doesn't have too work, that is the question.

We have a class based semi-free market incentive system in place to determine who does what kind of work.

That system is a mess, it is racist, sexist, and in other ways discriminatory. It perpetuates inequality, is not at all equitable, it is predatory. It is evil but it is pretty much the result of normal human greed.

The way to fix it is through regulation. It could be more equitable, less racist, less sexist, less predatory but only slightly. Still we will need most people to work so why not require all able bodied to contribute.

Is writing books enough of a contribution that you should not have to contribute in a more physical manner, maybe pick some fruit or pack some boxes. You eat fruit and receive boxes, right?
