You might think about doing a closer look at what is left, right and center. I felt like you for years until I looked at it the point of view that the center is middle of public opinion (what the people think) not a neutral political position.
The population is pretty much divided one third to the right, one third in the middle and one third to the left. You probably feel like all the media except Fox is to the left because all the media is to the left of Fox but only a small part of the media is far enough to the left of Fox to not be considered in the Middle or Centrist.
The reason that more than half the population when asked say the support raising the minimum wage or Medicare for all is that everyone on the left and half the people in the middle support them. What you think is the left includes too much of what is really centrist.
Can you imagine a person who supports raising the minimum wage and raising taxes on the rich also being pro-life and anti-gun control. That is what it is like to be a centrist along with others who are pro-choice and pro-gun control but do not support raising the minimum wage or raising the taxes on the rich. Or pro-life and pro-gun control. People in the middle might be pro-choice and support the 2nd Amendment.
Do you consider someone who supports a single left leaning agenda a leftist or do you only consider them a leftist if they support all the left leaning agendas.
If I am pro-choice but anti-gun control, anti-minimum wage, anti-tax the rich aren’t I a Conservative not even a moderate?
How far to the right are you that you see everyone else as a leftist? When you look for people more to the right than you, do you find many?
Where are you in that normal distribution? Are you a 3, 2 or 1? Even if you are only a 1, 84% of people are to the left of you. If you are a 2, 97% of people are to the left of you. I think Fox News is in the 1 to 2 range so it is not a surprise that most other Media is to the left of them but most are still just moderates not leftists. Certainly most are left of center but still not out to -1.
Once you figure out where you are on the right then figure out where you are regarding government controls vs freedom. Again, most people will be near the middle so if you are not near the middle most people will be on the other side compared to you.
