Your comment is not helpful, your call is unrealistic. How about some useful suggestions. Congress did that and let is expire. They banned the sale of these so called "assault rifles" and could not even make that stick. You think you can confiscate them; Connecticut can even get people to register them as required by law. Also, the issue is not need. Need is beyond what can be established. Might need this or might need that. What means of self-protection do you want vs. what threat does it pose to society. We are balancing risks not what might be needed.

The government decided a long time ago that the people should not be allowed to own weapons that might give them a real fighting chance to overthrow a tyrannical government. The second amendment has long been abrogated. The second amendment is pointless at this point. While banning semi and automatic weapons with high-capacity magazines would seem reasonable it also seems impossible. Holding people accountable for the damage caused by the weapons they buy does seem possible.
